Twitter is a useful tool for the near-instantaneous exchange of information. Many users follow posts (or tweets) from certain people or on specific topics; our application displays tweets geographically, letting you see everything that's going on in a particular area. Please note that Twitter's public timeline (the feed for this map) is uncensored and some tweets may contain objectionable content. Tweets are filtered only by a location or keyword you choose.

To use the application, simply enter a keyword to filter tweets by topic, author or hashtag, if desired. You also may confine your search to tweets originating within a specific geographic area by entering a city, state and radius. Please note that while either criteria is optional, you must select at least one search criteria: keyword or location. If you search by location, you must complete all three fields (radius, city and state).

The map will display the 25 most recent tweets meeting your criteria, and open a map window to display the most recent item. Use the left and right arrows in the upper-right corner of the map window to view the next or previous tweet. Note that the map will not update automatically; you will need to refresh the page or click the search button when you are ready to view a new set of tweets.
