This database provides the names, titles, departments and salaries for more than 54,000 Michigan public employees.

Records for non-exempt state classified employees were provided by the state Department of Civil Service in June 2007. Records for unclassified state employees, House of Representatives, House Fiscal Agency and Legislative Council employees were provided in July 2007.

The Michigan Supreme Court and Michigan Senate would not provide names or complete salary information for their employees. The information they did make public is available here in pdf format: Courts, Senate. Gov. Granholm's office would not disclose the salaries of her staff, nor would the governor's office disclose the number of employees serving on her or the lieutenant governor's staff.

Names of law enforcement officers whose jobs require them to work undercover are exempt from public disclosure under state law. Their position and salary information is included to ensure the data provide an accurate representation of staff size and budgeting.
