Michigan State has landed another kicking specialist from the Toledo, Ohio, area.
Whitehouse (Ohio) Anthony Wayne senior punter Jake Hartbarger has verbally committed to Michigan State according to recruiting service Scout.com. His commitment marks the second straight class the Spartans have landed a kicker from near Toledo. Ottawa Hills (Ohio) kicker Michael Geiger was part of MSU’s 2013 class.
Hartbarger is MSU’s 16th verbal commitment for the 2014 class and chose the Spartans over reported offers from Oklahoma, Iowa State, Toledo and Miami (Ohio).
The 6-foot-4, 195-pound, Hartbarger is rated the No. 2 punter in the nation by Kohl’s, which specializes in evaluating kickers, punters and long snappers.
Here’s is Kohl’s evaluation of Hartbarger:
“Jake competed at the 2013 National Invitational Scholarship Camp and came away a star, he kicked well on FG and KO but his greatest upside is as a D1 punter, Hartbarger hit “bombs” in front of 1,200 people in the final round. He showed 5.0 hang-times on punts that traveled over 50 yards in the air, Jake has a D1 frame and D1 athleticism, should play early in college.”
Hartbarger will be the likely replacement for MSU junior punter Mike Sadler.
