Former Spartan Draymond Green named to USA Select Team

Former Michigan State standout Draymond Green has been named to the USA Select Team, USA Basketball announced today.

Green, who will be heading into his third season with the Golden State Warriors, is one of 13 players selected to the team that will train with the USA National squad next week in Las Vegas. Continue reading

ESPN: MSU football has two of top 25 games from 2013

As it looks ahead to the college football season, ESPN will be televising what it viewed as the top 25 games from the 2013 season. Michigan State had two games make the list – its Rose Bowl victory over Stanford and its win over Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship Game.

The Rose Bowl checked in at No. 25 on the list, while the Big Ten Championship Game was No. 9. ESPN begins its countdown by televising the Rose Bowl at 7 tonight on ESPNU. The Big Ten Championship Game will not be televised due to rights restrictions.

ESPN tabs Izzo as third-best coach

The folks over at ESPN have had a series listing the nation’s top 50 college basketball coaches over the last few weeks and Michigan State’s Tom Izzo was unveiled as No. 3 on the list this afternoon.

Izzo is one of three Big Ten coaches in the top 10 as Wisconsin’s Bo Ryan is No. 7 and Michigan’s John Beilein is No. 9. Continue reading

MSU hockey: Josh Jacobs taken by Devils in 2nd round of NHL draft

Incoming Michigan State freshman Josh Jacobs was selected in the second round of the NHL draft by the New Jersey Devils on Saturday morning, the only future Spartans to be drafted.

New Jersey took the 6-foot-1 3/4, 193-pound defenseman with the 41st overall pick of the seven-round draft. It is the highest a future Spartan has been selected since Daultan Leveille (first round/29th pick by Atlanta in 2008).
