Juwan Caesar leaves MSU football team

Sophomore receiver Juwan Caesar has requested and been granted a release from his scholarship, Michigan State announced Thursday morning.

Caesar, a receiver from Miami Coral Park High School, was part of MSU’s 2011 recruiting class. He was redshirted in 2011 and didn’t see any game action last for the Spartans. Continue reading

Q and A with MSU women’s hoops recruit Jasmine Lumpkin

Joliet (Ill.) Catholic wing Jasmine Lumpkin became the first recruit in the 2014 class for the Michigan State women’s basketball team when she verbally committed last week. She is regarded as a top 100 player in the nation. The Collegiate Girls Basketball Report rates Lumpkin as the No. 51 player overall in the 2014 class and the 1he 10th best shooting guard.

Lumpkin had nearly 25 offers before choosing MSU over this year’s national runner-up Louisville and Big Ten rival Purdue. Below is a Q and A with the latest Spartan pledge. Continue reading

The Spartans throttled Penn State 16-1 on Thursday in their series opener, and the two teams meet again at 2:05 p.m. today. It remains clear for MSU that a sweep gets it into the Big Ten Tournament, thanks in part to a fortunate schedule quirk.

EAST LANSING — Mark Dantonio provided some insight into the foundations of his Michigan State football program to a group of business professionals Thursday.

MSU gets Nebraska, Purdue in cross-division games in 2014

The 2014 Big Ten football schedule has been released and Michigan State will host Michigan for a second straight year and face Nebraska and Purdue in its cross-division games.

MSU will open its conference slate against by hosting Nebraska on Oct. 4 and conclude it with a road game against rival Penn State on Nov. 29 in the Battle for the Land Grant trophy. Continue reading

Chris Frey commits to MSU

The MSU football program landed its second 2014 recruit in three days.

Upper Arlington, Ohio, linebacker Chris Frey verbally committed to the Spartans on Wednesday afternoon, announcing his decision on his Twitter page.

Frey, who just visited MSU on Monday, is rated a three star prospect by Rivals. He is the eighth member of the Spartans’ 2014 class.

Recruit Jay Harris no longer headed to MSU

Downingtown (Pa.) East wide receiver Jay Harris signed with the Michigan State football program in February but the sport is no longer in his future.
