MSU men’s hoops remains No. 9 in AP poll

The Michigan State men’s basketball team remained at No. 9 in this week’s Associated Press poll.

The Spartans, who are coming off a loss Sunday at Wisconsin, are one of five Big Ten teams in this week’s AP poll.

Michigan dropped five spots to No. 15, Iowa moved up a spot to No. 16, Wisconsin entered the poll at No. 21 and Ohio State jumped back in the rankings at No. 22.

The Spartans (20-4) host Northwestern on Thursday and Nebraska on Sunday afternoon.

Also today, Joe Lunardi of ESPN has the Spartans projected as  a No. 3 seed for the NCAA tournament in his latest bracketology.

MSU women remain in top 25: Despite suffering its most lopsided loss of the season Saturday, Michigan State has remained in the top 25 of this week’s AP women’s poll.

The Spartans remained in the poll for a second straight week but fell a spot to No. 25. MSU (16-8) went 1-1 last week, knocking off Illinois on the road before suffering a 76-56 road loss to then-No. 22 ranked Nebraska.

The Spartans are one of four Big Ten teams in this week’s poll. Penn State (18-5) dropped two spots to No. 11, Nebraska (17-5) moved up a spot to No. 21 and Purdue (17-7) moved up two spots to No. 23.

MSU hosts Ohio State on Saturday in its lone game this week.

Resting Appling for two weeks makes sense–the next three games are all winable without him. I think Dawson is doing a quick heal and will be ready for the Purdue game–four weeks to the day he hurt his hand.

Both of these players should be back for Michigan and then let the run begin.
