The Big Ten women’s basketball schedule was released this afternoon. Three of Michigan State’s first four Big Ten games are on the road this season. MSU faces Penn State, Purdue, Michigan, Indiana, Iowa and Northwestern just once in the regular season.
Below are some key dates for the Spartans this season.
Saturday, Jan. 4 – at Minnesota: This is the Spartans’ Big Ten opener
Thursday, Jan. 9 – vs. Nebraska: MSU’s conference home opener. This also marks Nebraska’s first trip to East Lansing since the 2012 season. This is an early season matchup of two of the top teams in the Big Ten last season.
Sunday, Jan. 12 – at Michigan: The Spartans travel to take on rival Michigan in Ann Arbor. This is the only regular season meeting between the rivals. MSU has dominated the series and won two of the three matchups last season
Sunday, Jan. 19 – Penn State: This is MSU’s first time meeting the reigning Big Ten regular-season champion Nittany Lions. Penn State won two of the three meetings between the schools last season. MSU’s lone win over the Nittany Lions came in the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament.
Sunday, Feb. 2 – Purdue: This contest should be another key one in the Big Ten race and marks the only meeting between the teams. MSU and Purdue were among the top four in the conference last season and met in the Big Ten Tournament championship game. The Boilermakers’ won two of the three matchups last season.
Saturday, Feb. 8 – at Nebraska: The Spartans conclude a three games in seven day stretch with a tough road game against the Huskers.
Saturday, Feb. 15 – Ohio State: The Buckeyes underachieved last season but could be in the Big Ten race. They are under the direction of a new coach and are making their first visit to East Lansing in a couple of years.
