HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. – Follow along with updates here as the Michigan State women’s basketball team takes on Michigan for the third time this season tonight.
MSU hasn’t lost two straight to Michigan since losing on Jan. 25, 2001 and Jan. 2, 2002.
A win tonight would help Michigan tie a program record with 22 this season (Wolverines also won 22 in the 1999-2000 season.
The Wolverines advanced to the quarterfinal with a 67-40 win over Indiana on Thursday.
The winner advances to face Penn State in a semifinal at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. If MSU wins, it will mark the first time the top four seeds advanced to the semifinals since 2010.

9:34: MSU 8, Michigan 4: At first media timeout (15:43), MSU is 4-6 from the field and Michigan is 2-7. Bell and Mills each with four points for the Spartans
9:41: MSU 13, Michigan 6: Bell with 7 early points after a 3-pointer. 12:38 left in 1st half
9:44: MSU 15, Michigan 8: Hines scores inside at the 11:24 mark but now Akyah Taylor is down on the court and being attended to by MSU’s trainer.
9:48: MSU 17, Michigan 10: Jasmine Hines with 6 points off bench. This is the best she’s played in some time for Spartans
9:50: MSU 19, Michigan 10: Hines with a pair of made free throws at 9:03 mark and has 8 points.
9:52: MSU 22, Michigan 12: Bell hits 3 to give the Spartans a 10-point lead. Bell up to 10 points and Hines has 8 at the media timeout at the 7:17 mark. Hines hasn’t scored in double digits since Jan. 13 against Illinois. U-M is just 6-20 from field and MSU is 9-18 (Hines 3-5, Bell 4-6).
9:58: MSU 24, Michigan 16: Sam Arnold splits a pair of free throws at 5:06 mark.
10:01: MSU 26, Michigan 18: Rachel Sheffer has seven points, including five in last few minutes to help Wolverines hang around. 3:54 remaining in first half.
10:06: MSU 30, Michigan 25:Â It’s halftime and Spartans have led the entire way and by as much as 12 in the opening half. Michigan closed the half on a 7-2 spurt capped by Ryan’s late 3-pointer.
Ryan and Thompson have combined for 7 points on 3-13 shooting in the opening half for Michigan. Bell has game-high 12 points on 5-9 shooting.
Merchant has to be happy with the play of her posts in the first half. Mills and Hines combined for 14 points on 6-9 shooting.

11:01: MSU 58, Michigan 41: We’re at final media timeout (3:51) and MSU is closing in on a date with Penn State in the semifinals Saturday night. Bell has 20 points for the Spartans.
