MSU men’s basketball: Spartans vs. Oakland pregame

The day after Thanksgiving is Valentines’ Day here at Breslin Center.

Oakland senior Drew Valentine, who tweaked his knee earlier this week, is out warming up for the Grizzlies. His brother, Denzel, is at the south end of the court doing the same in this first matchup of the former Sexton High stars on opposite teams.

Graham Couch looks at the tight bond shared between the two brothers their father, former MSU player and their prep coach Carlton. And here’s a look at what to expect tonight between the Spartans and Grizzlies, who also feature former Okemos High standout Travis Bader at guard.

MSU will get its first opportunity to see how it plays without freshman shooting guard Gary Harris, whose shoulder sprain suffered Tuesday against Boise State will keep him out for at least 2-3 weeks.

Tipoff is less than 15 minutes away. Follow me on Twitter (@chrissolari) for updates throughout the game, and check back here at halftime and after the game at greenandwhite.com for more.

This team is playing very sloppy basketball right now. Too many unforced turnovers: travels, lazy passes, etc. We need Trice back to tighten things up! Turn it over this much in the Big 10 and we will not win many big games.

Byrd has had his chances and hasn’t come through. I want him to do well , but there’s no way he gets consistent minutes once Trice and Harris come back. Too many misses!
