MSU hockey picked seventh/sixth in CCHA poll

The NHL is in another labor dispute, but hockey season is set to begin for Michigan State.

The Spartans have a home exhibition game against Windsor on Monday night before opening their season next weekend at Minnesota. The opening home series is against Niagara on Oct. 19-20.

MSU was ranked 16th in the USCHO.com preseason poll earlier this week. Today the Spartans were picked to finish seventh by the coaches and sixth by the media in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association preseason poll.

Notre Dame was the favorite in the coaches poll, while Michigan was tabbed the favorite by the media.

MSU was picked eighth in the preseason poll last season. The Spartans return preseason All-CCHA goaltender Will Yanakeff, who had a 2.50 goals against average, a .922 save percentage and made 23 starts last season.

We’ll have more from hockey following tomorrow’s media day.

Earlier today during a brief session with media, MSU quarterbacks coach Dave Warner said he thought the Ohio State game was the best of Andrew Maxwell’s career so far.  Warner said he saw improved accuracy from Maxwell last weekend.

In case you missed this earlier, Solari wrote about Lawrence Thomas, who is enjoying his role as MSU’s fullback. Columnist Graham Couch wrote about the opportunity freshman Aaron Burbridge has at receiver. And here is the replay from Graham’s chat earlier today.

And then there’s this story about former Spartan receiver Plaxico Burress, who believes he can help the New York Jets.

Also Detroit Cass Tech offensive tackle Dennis Finley, a 2013 MSU recruit, was bumped up to a four-star rating by Scout today.

Dippy tanner is 2 coaches behind, but let’s not quibble about accuracy.

I think if yo asked Coach Anastos, this is a great place to start the run at the crown.

      you know the drill.

The Spartan’s pal, D Fleming aka Buddy James is doing a bit of day late posting on the previous article “Wide receiver”

Just thought you would want to know…

Must be closing in on Midnight Madness for that guy to start his fanmail.

        • avatar USMCSpartan(Ret.) says:

Yea, but he is such a COWARD, he only posts on past threads, which is ok because then I don’t have to bother with him – except to you know wipe the gooey puke yellow slime off the bottom of my shoe

          • avatar D Fleming says:

So somebody with coaching experience and character surpassing Dantonio, expresses that fact and is labeled a coward. I just said that Dantonio would have trouble leading a boy scout troop let alone a football team , that is a statement of fact. So lets keep the tone of this debate civil and respectfull.

          • avatar D Fleming says:

That is out of line. You do not call a man for stating a fact, I simply stated what everyone knows that Mark Dantanio is in over his head. He is not qualified to lead a boy scout troop much less a football team. I make this statement from a superior knowledge of coaching and how to teach leadership skills to young men. You dont call a man a coward for stating the truth, I expect you to me more civil and respectfull in your debates .

          • avatar USMCSpartan(Ret.) says:

Y0u are a reprehensible coward who lashes out at others better than you are with no facts, just your own perverted opinions. You just stay on the farm with your bovine friends, as we all know those are the only beings that can stand being in your presence or listen to you drivel.

  5. avatar USMCSpartan(Ret.) says:

Just a side note on our occasional poster, behind the green curtain: his debt is not 40M and his defense for leaving the others holding the bag – I didn’t understand what I was doing. If that is not the most lilly livered cowardly contemptible set of words after you pledge your faith to a group, I don’t know what are. He should be in debtors prison not “coaching” young men. What a role model – it’s okay guys when the going gets tough, just tell ‘em your dog ate your homework.

just keep them off the course at Ironwood Links…

  8. avatar USMCSpartan(Ret.) says:

As usual when the Criminal Recruiter tries to deflect the media to another team and put said team in a bad light, he fails. The gouging incident was deemed not a football play, but not onerous enough to discipline anyone. (The acorn was just as guilty) That’s the 3rd “class act” (please realize there is dripping sarcasm) I’m aware of by the buffoon in CMB.

  9. avatar Spartan 81 says:

Chris, glad to see Delaneys office vindicate Jack Allen, I think they learned their lesson from last year with Gholston and Nards, Nards is the last guy by the way I would want to run into at the bottom of a dog pile.

Cow is an old O lineman , maybe he could weigh in on dog piles.

  10. avatar The Tanner says:

Allan get found not guilty baby !!!

Coach D juggle roster baby !!!

    Fototi get redshirt baby !!!

The Tanner brings the goods baby !!!

    • avatar Spart Guy says:

The Spart Guy can communicate in complete sentences, baby!

Coach Mark Dantonio does not juggle, he manages a roster, baby!

The Spart Guy can spell Fonoti, baby!

The Spart Guy has never been to jail, baby!

  11. avatar USMCSpartan(Ret.) says:

Not that I’m the kind of guy to rub it in, but I will snicker into my fist, if the aped NHL game in the cesspool in the ground over in aa falls through.

  12. avatar USMCSpartan(Ret.) says:

Interesting development out west, that USC team that was supposed to be all that, gave up 28 to Utah. They did comeback to win, but still looks like there are only a few teams playing up to their hype this year.
