Will Yanakeff made back-to-back starts in net for the first time since November.
The Michigan State junior capitalized on the opportunity and was named the CCHA Goaltender of the Week on Monday after stopping 76 of 79 shots over the weekend against Alaska. That including 37 savesĀ in a 1-0 win Friday night, which marked his first shutout of the season and third of his career.
Yanakeff registered a season-high 39 saves in Saturday’s 4-2 loss with the three goals he allowed coming on the power play. (Alaska’s fourth goal was an empty netter).
MSU concludes the regular season with games at Munn against Western Michigan on Friday and Saturday. Both games can be seen locally on Comcast 900.
Solari will have more on this and the MSU hockey team in the upcoming days.
Thanks for posting that Brian, he is a good goalie and deserves recognition, not the reason for our struggles.
Goaltending has been a very pleasant surprise this season.
However Special Teams are horrible! Beyond Horrible. -1 goal differential on Special teams. That equates into many 1 and 2 goal losses.
Indiana goes down to Minny….there’s still light at the end of the tunnel for MSU!!
If State beats Wisky and UofM, while UofM beats Indy……tie for the Big Ten Championship.
As long as they take care of what they can control, let’s see how this all ends up when the dust settles…..very exciting 2 weeks of basketball to end the regular season!!
Go State!!
IU also has to play the Acorns.
IU already destroyed OSU @ OSU though….
To direct an actual comment at the the thread, we need some goal scorers and have since the last run to a championship. Defense/goal tending is/was the calling card of Ron Mason’s teams, but there were always at least a couple of guys who could put it in the net, which a different skill set than just stick handling and shooting the puck.
