MSU basketball: Izzo’s extended Spartan family

Tom Izzo’s Michigan State basketball team will find out its NCAA Tournament fate later this afternoon. They’ll gather together at Breslin Center to learn their destination and opponent.

And there will be plenty of hugging and celebration with the Spartans’16th straight NCAA berth, a bond of brotherhood that stretches back to the infancy of Izzo’s program and to the days where its family foundation was forged.

In talking with a ┬ánumber of people around the program, past and present, that type of family environment has made MSU what it is today – a college basketball giant. We also look at what Izzo did to help foster that, by paying for, building and dedicating the Frances Cleaves Family Center outside the team locker room.

The NCAA Tournament selection show begins around 6 p.m. on CBS, right after the Big Ten Tournament championship game between Ohio State and Wisconsin.

You can hear Tom Izzo’s press conference following the release of the brackets at 6:30 p.m. on Spartan Sports Network. MSU hockey’s deciding Game 3 of its CCHA Playoffs second-round series at Miami (Ohio) will be broadcast there afterward, and you can listen to it live locally on WJIM 1240-AM.

Thanks for printing that Chris, people lose sight of the fact that there have been 10 special seasons here not 6 , 10 sweet 16s in 15 years. In the College Basketball world a sweet 16 is a special season. You will never tell me that 2008 was a failure.
And I still think were headed for # 11 in 16 years next weekend.

    Go Green
