The Michigan State men’s and women’s basketball teams are both in action today.
The Spartan men are expecting a tougher test than earlier in the week as they take on Loyola of Chicago at 2 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.

The MSU women’s team will try to continue the best start in school history today when it faces Dayton at 1 p.m. at the UD Arena. The Flyers, who are ranked No. 19 in this week’s Associated Press poll and No. 18 in the USA Today coaches poll, will be the toughest test to date for the Spartans.
Becca Mills has heated up after a cold start shooting to the season for MSU. She will be the Spartans’ primary inside presence for today’s game with Jasmine Hines not making the trip.
On the football front, junior Le’Veon Bell was named the College Football Performance Awards Elite Running Back Trophy winner (national running back of year). He is the third straight Big Ten running back to earn the honor, following Wisconsin’s Montee Ball (2011) and current Detroit Lion and former Illinois standout Mikel Leshoure (2010). Bell will be presented the award today.
In news from last night, the MSU volleyball team had its season come to a halt with a loss to Michigan in the regional semifinal. The MSU hockey team found some offense but it wasn’t enough in a 3-2 setback to Notre Dame.
