MSU junior guard Keith Appling was named the Big Ten co-player of the week this morning.
Appling, who shares the honor with Indiana’s Cody Zeller, had a game-high 24 points in the Spartans’ come-from-behind victory over Illinois at Breslin Center on Thursday night.
Appling also added eight rebounds, seven assists and a block. He sparked the Spartans 87.5 percent shooting second half, scoring or assisting on 11 of the 14 field goals after halftime. He had 19 of his 24 points and six assists in the second half.
The player of the week honor was the third for Appling in his career and his first this season.
Appling is averaging a team-leading 14.0 points and 4.2 assists for the Spartans (18-4, 7-2 Big Ten), who host Minnesota on Wednesday.

I’m not sure the coaches have it 100% correct at 8, but I know the Media have it wrong at 12. I’d split the difference, but I don’t think ‘Cuse, the
Fighting Patino’s, Acorns (we beat them), or Kansas (we beat them) are better than the Spartans. I sure the cracker wannabe ‘s in South CArolina think they are saving the world from B1G with their voting, but all they do is win the worst voter’s award each week.
Here’s Joe’s look at the B1G halfway through without the need of breaching the pay wall:

And Cheese-It jumps aboard the “kick ‘em while they’re down” bandwagon, “Izzo said possible Gary Harris and Trice won’t play Wednesday against Minnesota.” It’s also possible that that I’ll break 70 tomorrow, not as likely as Harris and Trice playing on Wed, but possible.
