Talkin’ Bracketology: ESPN’s Lunardi has MSU and U-M both beginning NCAA runs in Auburn Hills

Any NCAA tournament bracket predictions in late January are only fodder for discussion, even those made by the industry’s perceived preeminent bracketologist, Joe Lunardi.

ESPN’s bracket guru released his weekly bracketology Tuesday, predicting the NCAA field.

Lunardi has Michigan as a No. 1 seed in the Midwest Region and Michigan State as a No. 3 in South, with both opening up play at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

That would be an interesting weekend at the Palace, a complete zoo of fans and every local quasi-media member, and, potentially, an odd dynamic in the crowd as MSU and Michigan fans rooted against each other’s teams.

Given there are also opening-round sites in Dayton and Lexington, which could house Indiana or Ohio State, if MSU is worthy of a top-four seed, Auburn Hills does seem to be a likely destination.

Lunardi also has Iowa State as potential second-round opponent for MSU, which would mean a matchup with ex-Spartan Korie Lucious.

It’s a long way off, but sort of fun to think about.

That’s a great possibility but we have to get to 12 -13 league wins to make that happen

Win these next 3 and that is a distinct possibility. By the way, wasn’t there a year where we had a run to the final four that went through Auburn Hills? And Iowa State was on the slate that year as well. GO GREEN
