IOWA CITY — That sort of performance won’t win the Big Ten. But Thursday’s 62-59 win at Iowa — one of snatching victory from defeat victories — goes a long way toward keeping the Spartans realistically in the race.
Appling, who had a rough day otherwise, was terrific in the final couple minutes (a runner and 4-for-4 at the line), as was Gary Harris, who we learned re-injured his left shoulder in the first half. It popped out again, according to coach Tom Izzo, and Harris said after the game he’ll probably have to go back to wearing the brace.
As for long-term ramifications of Harris’ injury, Izzo either didn’t know and didn’t seem in the mood to think about it. But obviously, beyond this critical win, that’s the story of the evening.

I was off by a bucket but knew we would start out rough and pull it out with a slap the floor stand. Most road games will start our rough like this one. But mark my words this team will extend the NCAA streak to 16. 10-8 gets us in and this team should exceed that mark by a game or two, 12-6 , 23-9 and a 6 seed sounds about right.

Silk suit, black tie,

Gold watch, diamond ring,

They come runnin’ just as fast as they can
coz every Hawkeye girl crazy ’bout a sharp dressed Graham
Top coat, top hat,

Black shades, white gloves,

They come runnin’ just as fast as they can
coz every Iowa girl crazy ’bout a sharp dressed Graham..
Well played.
Actually Graham, it is exactly these type of wins on the road against the Iowa’s of the world that lead to big ten championships. You always seems to have a negative twist on things.
Thats because he had to get an oil change in Lawton
It’s true these are the type of wins that lead to titles. Winning on the road over a team you should beat, but in a game you shouldn’t win. That’s the difference between 14-4 & 11-7.
Actually winning the games like the one at Minnesota is what leads to titles, winning games like tonight are the swing games between 12-6 or 9-9
agreed, and it’s getting tiresome, how about something like “…we gutted-out a tough win in a hostile environment…” ? And as far as injuries go, we never had a chance without Kalin Lucas in ’09 either, did we?
At least one of Gauna, Byrd & Costello is going to need to step up and demand some minutes. Costello once again didn’t play, and Byrd & Gauna combined for a total of 9 minutes. We aren’t going to survive playing like Ohio State, where the top 7 play 230 of 240 minutes each game
Free Costello…
