Las Vegas oddsmakers aren’t trying to pick the score when they set a betting line — they’re to incur action.
The perfect line is one that brings in a lot of money on both sides.
With that in mind, Michigan State right now might be almost the ideal team for Vegas, which has the Spartans as 7-point underdogs for Saturday’s game at Notre Dame.
MSU’s defense has been ferocious and its offense showed enough Saturday that Spartan fans and bettors might be tempted to wager on this crew against an Irish squad that hasn’t looked overwhelming.
Conversely, setting Notre Dame as a mere one-touchdown favorite might have the opposite effect on anyone so inclined who saw the Spartans in either of their first two weeks.
From my perspective, this MSU team is a horrible play (Not sure the betting world sees them like I do.). The Spartans have shown too much of both extremes to put money on them or against them.
