MSU at Indiana, halftime musings: Foul trouble, turnovers all that’s keeping Spartans from winning

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — MSU trails 44-38 for two reasons: Its eight turnovers, at least five of which led directly to Indiana points (three of them fast-break dunks); and the foul trouble to Keith Appling and Gary Harris.

MSU’s starting backcourt missed the final five minutes of the first half, each sitting with two fouls. Appling picked up his second foul and sat three minutes earlier.

In their place, Travis Trice and Denzel Valentine and made several defensive mistakes, leading to at least three of Indiana’s six 3-pointers.

Adreian Payne is outplaying Cody Zeller and IU’s guards Hulls and reserve Will Sheehey need favorable athletic matchups to score.

If Appling and Harris can keep themselves in this game, MSU has a shot.

More after the game.

I dislike Jalen Rose with a passion but he said it best: When you play at IU, you have 3 fouls when you get off the bus….

Appling has 4 fouls with 14 minutes left and Trice is struggling, we are in trouble

Typical big ten home team favoring officials

yep but IU it’s always so much worse, well we split two tough road games, still in great shape with 10 games left. hold serve on home court and we can still win this thing !

Most definitely! If you look at our upcoming schedule, our next six games are all winable. If we can pull that off, we would be 12-2 in the B10 with only four to go. Of course, we have to hold serve at home, but that can be done.
